Classics du Courage
Cycle five classics in one week
Riding one of the Classics is a goal for many cyclists. To be named a true 'Flandrien' you at least need to have paddled all the spring-classics one time each. Take on the adventure with us and ride a whopping five Classics in just one week.
In professional cycling the Classics are the ultimate one-day races that separate the men from the boys. It are defianing and usually long contests with different obstacles to overcome: either short, steep climbs, cobblestones or a mix of both. Next to that, the Classics are contested in either spring or autumn, which makes weather conditions a serious factor to take into account.
Within the Classics there are 5 races that have become known as 'The Monuments'. These are best compared to the Grand Slams in tennis. Winning these grants you eternal glory. The Monuments are Milano – San Remo, Giro di Lombardia, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders. These last 3 races we will be cycling for there full length, making this a trip of monumental proportion.
So is it just cycling this week? No, because we will have some much needed resting days in between the rides. Ideal for regaining your energy, but also great to do some sightseeing. Be the lazy tourist in some of the most scenic locations of Holland, Belgium and France. Packed with (World War) history, we will try and make sure we have interesting places we can visit in between the cycling. However, the focus will be on the cycling this week – remember, this is a Hors Categorie trip.
Practical information
We welcome you on Saturday the 3rd of April at 16.00h in Maastricht with drinks and a snack. You can check in your room straight away, but more important: meet your fellow Coureurs. When everyone has arrived, we will explain how the week will be planned in details and afterwards there will be a 3-course dinner.
The week will be roughly something like this:
option to extend it to the full race (266 km)
transfer back to Maastricht
The first 4 days we will be staying in the same hotel near Maastricht / Liège. Ideal to be working on your recovery plus the transfers to the start / finish will be short. The intermediate stage will go passed the Mur de Huy, Namur, Leuven and beautiful Ravels (cycling tracks). This stage is a replacement for the Fleche de Wallonie in the Classics roadbook, but will be a challenge nonetheless. In Anvers we finish directly at the hotel, so we have maximal time to recover for the two tough cobble-classics. So we will be staying here for just a night, but the last days will be on the same spot. Ideal to prepare us for the tour version of Paris-Roubaix with more then 40 km’s of the worst cobblestone roads imaginable. The heroic welcome in the Roubaix-cycling stadium will be emotional as well as magnificent. To celebrate this great feat we will be watching the pro’s the day after, with a much deserved Belgium beer. A fantastic way to end a epic week of cycling.
There are limited spots available on this trip. To make sure you can join in and in order to secure spots on the Paris Roubaix tour version, we advise you to sign up as soon as possible. This can be done by filling out your information on the registration form.
